Rough Rider Racing (RRR) is the University of Ottawa Faculty of Engineering’s Baja SAE team. We design, build and race an off-road single-seat vehicle to tackle some of the toughest student competitions in North America.

About Us

Rough Rider Racing (RRR) is the University of Ottawa Faculty of Engineering’s Baja SAE team. Baja SAE is an international competition organised by SAE International that challenges students to design and build a single-seat utility terrain vehicle (UTV) built to withstand harsh off-road conditions. There are three North American events annually, each bringing together around 100 student teams.

After a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, the team has been re-started and now includes about 40 students from mechanical, electrical, civil, software, computer and biomedical mechanical engineering. Our work is organised into five subteams: Admin, Drive Train, Electrical, Suspension and Chassis. Through Baja SAE we gain hands-on experience in design, fabrication, testing and project management that complements what we learn in the classroom.
